* Almond Scented Defense: When crushed, the leaves emit a strong, sweet odor reminiscent of almond extract or maraschino cherries.
* "Tulip" Connection: The cherry laurel was introduced to Northern Europe around 1576 by Carolus Clusius, the same botanist responsible for introducing tulips to the U.S.
* Versatile Survivor: It is highly resilient, tolerant of pollution, salt, and heavy pruning.
* Typically grown as a small hedge, the Cherry Laurels at Cherry laurel reach over 25 feet tall.
* The leaves contain arsenic, beautiful armona, but not to be ingested.
* While often called the English laurel in North America, it is actually native to the regions bordering the Black Sea (including Turkey, Bulgaria, and Iran).
* Sun and Shade Champion: Unlike most plants that have a strict preference, cherry laurels are remarkably adaptable, thriving in both full sun and deep shade.
